Cannibalistic Slobber

Lygia Clark's Cannibastic Slobber, a piece made of saliva and thread, is an artifact. It is a terrifying, yet playful experience that explores unconscious knowledge and the relationship between body and mind. The participant is essentially accepted as part of a web that embraces the person participating in the exercise. This kind of performance piece was created for opening the MoMA. But it has since lost all its value.

Stone and Air

Lygia Clark's "Stone and Air" is a sensory object that is shaped by the participants. The process is similar in nature to childbirth. Participants' somatic experiences become the central character of the proposal. To protect her wrist, an elastic band was provided to the artist. However, she broke it in an episode. The work seems to have healing properties because it replicates the movement that life makes. The stone is filled in air and moves in sync with the participant's breathing.

Pedro e ar

During the Neo-Concrete period, Lygia Clark began to explore the relationship between objecthood and surface. Superficies Moduladas is a series of paintings that Lygia Clark began to paint in the 1950s. It shows a shift in her understanding of the figure/background relationship. She became influenced by the notions of the group's spokesman, Ferreira Gullar, but questioned them later. She would later explore the relationship of the objecthood to the surface.

New Objectivity

Lygia Clark was a Brazilian born in Belo Horizonte (Minas Gerais), Brazil in 1920. Clark was an artist in Rio de Janeiro as a child. Clark completed a Paris art course and studied with Arpad Szenes and Fernand Leger, modern masters. She had her first solo display at the Institut Endoplastique, in 1954. Her art is a unique mixture of the sensual, the aesthetic, and incorporates elements such as sound or movement into her works.

New Objectivity II

The New Objectivity movement in art is the most prominent of all conceptual movements. Clark has been pushing this idea with her artwork for more than 40 years. This leads to works of art that challenge expectations and traditional perceptions. Clark was a student of Pierre Fedida, a renowned psychiatrist, in Paris during the 1970s. Clark's investigation coincided with significant world events, including the 1968 May 1968 events in France. Clark was critical of art institutions, and began to consider her work abandoning traditional art-making techniques. Clark went through psychoanalysis with Pierre Fedida in the mid-70s. However, she ended the therapy later.
